Antioch V.F.D. Hosts and Participates in
Pressurized Container Training

Antioch V.F.D. hosted a pressurized container training class conducted by the Georgia Fire Academy. Approximately 25 firefighters from Antioch V.F.D. and surrounding Harris County fire departments participated in this course. The objective of the Pressurized Container class is to familiarize firefighters with the potential hazards in dealing with pressurized containers, and how to safely evacuate affected areas and extinguish a ruptured container. Although this exercise used a propane tank, pressurized containers can come in many shapes, sizes, and have varying contents that can be hazardous to residents and firefighters when not handled properly.

Firefighters participate in classroom training coordinated by Todd Wainwright of the GA Fire Academy

Before hands-on training, firefighters are briefed on safety and what to expect during the live fire exercise

As the propane tank heats up and spews propane, firefighters cool the tank to seat the pop-off valve

Propane continues to disperse vertically as well as horizontally across the ground as firefighters approach the tank

As they approach the tank, a wide fog pattern narrowly protects the firefighters from the fire that continues to burn

After safely approaching and reaching the tank, a firefighter closes the leaking valve stopping the flow of propane
