A.V.F.D. Spring Festival Sunday May 7, 2006
Despite the intermittent weather, the second annual A.V.F.D. Spring Festival was a success.
Residents from the Antioch and surrounding communities came to enjoy the day's festivities.
The day's events included:
- Dancing with the "Dance Master" Fred Norris
- Fire safety and education
- Food and beverage sales (hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, boiled shrimp, BBQ, pizza, bake sale)
- Arts and crafts booths
- Bungee run
- Face and hair painting
- ADT security services representatives
- Antioch Baptist Church representatives
- County commissioner candidates
- Reverse beauty pageant
- Reverse drawing for $10,000 cash
It goes without saying that the first highlight of the day was the reverse beauty pageant. A.V.F.D.'s brave and fearless firefighters were dressed to the hip in their best Saturday evening wear. Each of the contestants played the crowd for donations while singing a song of their choice. The audience was treated to renditions of songs ranging from Aerosmith's "Dude looks like a lady" to Nancy Sinatra's "These boots are made for walking." After a close vote from the crowd, the winning Diva, "Josephine" Dimon was crowned and presented with her bouquet of flowers and trophy.
As the day's festivities drew to a close, the reverse drawing for the $10,000 narrowed to 10 eager finalists. As the drawings proceeded, further narrowing the potential winner, the finalists were presented prizes as well. After several tense minutes of anticipation, the drawing narrowed the field to one remaining ticket held by Mr. and Mrs. Keever, who were presented their check by Chief Warren Popp
A.V.F.D. would like to thank the Antioch community as well as vendors and businesses in the area for their continued support of A.V.F.D. We certainly hope everyone enjoyed the 2006 Spring Festival. You can see some of the photos from the event below.
