Search & Rescue Training Class Held
at Northwest Harris

As a required portion of the Firefighter Module 1 training class currently underway for Harris County volunteer firefighters, the Search & Rescue class was held Saturday November 5, 2005 at Northwest Harris station 800. The Search & Rescue class is designed to educate and train firefighters in safely and effectively searching structures for possible victims, and the proper manner in which to rescue them. Firefighters are also trained on the proper procedures for rescuing down or trapped fire fighters, in addition to rescuing themselves should they find themselves in a dangerous situation or possibly trapped.

Here are some pictures of firefighters as they maneuvered blindly through the maze learning to 'feel' their way out of a simulated burning building. This teaches the firefighter how to be prepared for and cope with operating in a smoke filled environment where visibility can be minimal to nearly none.
