Water Supply and
Hose Streams & Appliances

Training Class Held
at Northwest Harris

As a required portion of the Firefighter Module 1 training class currently underway for Harris County volunteer firefighters, the Water Supply and Hose Streams & Appliances class was held Saturday November 12, 2005 at Northwest Harris station 800. This class is designed to educate and train firefighters how to obtain adequate water supply for firefighting, in addition to the proper manner in which to attack and extinguish the fire. Firefighters were taught to hook up to a hydrant in order to supply water to primary attack lines or refill the tank and act as a water shuttle to a drop tank which is used remote locations not in close proximity to a hydrant or other water source. Firefighters also practiced handling varying types of hoses and nozzles, in addition to a simulated search and initial attack on a fire.

Here are some pictures of firefighters as they practiced hooking up to the hydrant to refill the truck in order to refill the drop tank, and then used varying hose streams to attack the simulated fire.

Below are brief video clips of firefighters working with the different hose streams and performing the simulated initial fire attack.  These clips were saved at 256 kbps to retain image quality and may load slower if you are on dial-up.
